Abstract

As the only U.S. Arctic state, Alaska shows both the harm of global climate change and some of the country's most innovative community-based adaptation. Housing is residents' primary protection from climate impacts, yet the intersection of housing, climate, and community well-being remains under-researched. This project asks: How does a changing climate in Alaska affect how housing is designed, built, maintained, and funded? How can evaluation support housing organizations to adapt to a changing climate? Through a literature review, interviews, and six pilot evaluations, we are developing evaluation tools for community-based housing providers, guided by an advisory panel. The accompanying report, Climate Impacts on Alaska Housing, offers a first answer to question 1, synthesizing the best available evidence on these impacts.
