EFFECTIVENESS OF MOBILE-BASED TELEMEDICINE ON HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE IN CHRONIC HEART FAILURE PATIENTS AT ST. PAUL'S HOSPITAL, ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, 2026: A QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
Abstract
Description for OSF Registration: This study evaluates the impact of mobile-based telemedicine interventions on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) at St. Paul’s Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2025. Using a quasi-experimental design, the study assessed changes in HRQoL among CHF patients who received structured telemedicine support, including regular mobile follow-ups, symptom monitoring, and patient education. Primary outcomes include changes in HRQoL scores measured by validated instruments, as well as secondary outcomes such as hospitalizations, adherence to medication, and self-care behaviors. Moderating and mediating factors, such as patient engagement, technological literacy, and baseline clinical characteristics, were also evaluated. The study provides evidence on the feasibility and effectiveness of mobile-based telemedicine interventions in improving patient-centered outcomes among CHF patients in a low-resource setting. Findings may inform policy and clinical practice for chronic disease management in Ethiopia and similar contexts.
