Honor for 21st century
Abstract
This study aims to develop and validate a new measure of honor conceptualized as a form of costly morality. The study proceeds in three rounds. In Round 1, a 40-item pool will be administered in the United States and Turkey to evaluate item performance and reduce the pool to a smaller set using preregistered psychometric criteria. In Round 2, the reduced item set will be administered across multiple countries (Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Greece, Italy, Norway, Romania, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Australia, and South Africa) to identify a brief set of items that function robustly across cultures. In Round 3, the final scale will be validated in independent samples by examining reliability, factor structure, and associations with related constructs.
