Abstract

WHITE PAPER: AQ-256 PROVENANCE // SYSTEMIC STATE AUDITABILITY AND FORENSIC RECONSTRUCTION DATE: 2026-02-28 PROJECT ID: OSF-AQ256-PROV-003 AUTHOR: R. McBride I. ABSTRACT The utility of the AQ-256 Deterministic Substrate is predicated not only on its performance and defensive posture but on its capacity for non-repudiable auditing. We propose the "Provenance Layer" (Evidence Locker), a high-fidelity, append-only state-ledger integrated directly into the Mesh consensus. This layer provides a mathematically verifiable audit trail of all logical state transitions, transforming the infrastructure from a "black box" into a transparent, audit-ready sovereign asset. II. THE EVIDENCE LOCKER: SYSTEMIC PROVENANCE The Evidence Locker is the third architectural pillar. It functions as a synchronous ledger that records the operational state of the Kernel at every clock cycle. Unlike classical logging, which suffers from I/O bottlenecking, the Evidence Locker operates on a bifurcated path, logging to the Mesh Consensus without impeding the main processing pipeline. III. ARCHITECTURAL METHODOLOGY State Snapshotting: Every logic state is captured as a 256-bit hash and committed to the MESH. Non-Repudiation: Once a state is committed, it cannot be altered or retroactively injected. The ledger acts as a permanent forensic record. Independent Verifiability: External auditors can query the Evidence Locker for specific temporal windows without gaining access to the operational data streams, maintaining Logical Opacity. IV. FORENSIC RECONSTRUCTION In the event of a behavioral drift or "Substrate Dye-Pack" trigger, the system provides an automated forensic dump. This allows developers to step backward through the logic chain, second-by-second, to isolate the precise instruction cycle where the anomaly occurred. This reduces manual incident response time from days to milliseconds. V.
