Abstract

This dataset contains 79 anonymised responses from an online questionnaire investigating preferences for different methods of visualising Likert scale data: simple bar chart, grouped bar chart, stacked bar chart, heatmap, multi-line chart, histogram, scatterplot with regression line, and pyramid plot. Each participant completed a subset of pairwise comparison items in which two visualisations were presented simultaneously, one positioned at the top and one at the bottom. Preferences were recorded on a continuous scale ranging from –50 (strong preference for the top visualisation) to 50 (strong preference for the bottom visualisation), with 0 indicating no preference. The dataset includes the following variables: participant_id, startdate, submitdate, and questionnaire item columns corresponding to the presented visualisation pairs.
