Abstract

This video is a short excerpt from a lecture-recital that demonstrates a semi-constructive learning approach in piano instruction. It highlights how technique can be developed through active engagement and role-shifting. Rather than passively receiving information, the student adopts the role of a peer teacher—reviewing, articulating, and applying previously learned concepts. This “learning by teaching” model fosters critical thinking, sharpens observational skills, promotes consistent practice, and builds confidence and a sense of achievement. The demonstration illustrates how weekly routines involving student-led reviews can deepen understanding while providing instructors with insight into students’ evolving learning processes. This video forms part of a broader research project investigating the development of coordinated movement in piano performance, with applications in piano pedagogy, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
