Abstract

In this two-part series, a student explores the intricate physical choreography of piano performance, revealing that high-level playing is a demanding, full-body activity far beyond simple manual dexterity. She articulates a sophisticated view of the body as an interconnected system where every element—from the shoulders and back to the feet—contributes to sound production. This exploration is paired with a supplemental reference video that provides a detailed anatomical breakdown and establishes a precise vocabulary for the craft's physical mechanics. These videos form part of a broader research project investigating the development of coordinated movement in piano performance, with applications in piano pedagogy, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
