Abstract

Lawrence K. History repeatedly teaches us that peace is not a given; it must be safeguarded through shared memory, moral reflection, and cross-cultural understanding. Universal love is not an abstraction but a necessary foundation for the continuation of civilization. The Trilogy of Prayers for World Peace consists of three major historical reflections: (1) A Historical Review and Human Awakening on Japan's Nanjing Massacre; (2) A Historical Review and Human Awakening on the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; and (3) A Historical Review and Human Awakening on the Nazi Holocaust Against the Jewish People. The purpose of revisiting these dark histories is not to perpetuate hatred but to awaken awareness, so humanity may better understand the value of light and peace. As the first work in the series, this study offers a humanitarian, non-political overview of the Nanjing Massacre (1937–1938), one of the most devastating atrocities of the 20th century. Over the course of six weeks, Japanese forces carried out mass killings, arson, looting, and sexual violence, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians and prisoners of war. In addition to providing a historical background, this work introduces four poetic forms—classical verse, regulated seven-character verse, regulated five-character verse, and modern free verse—and includes original compositions in each form to commemorate the victims, caution future generations, and advocate global peace and harmony. Presented in Traditional Chinese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese, this book aims to promote cross-cultural remembrance and foster a world in which reflection leads to awakening and awakening leads to peace.
