Abstract

This course explores the concept of intercultural competence by examining how individuals navigate cultural differences in diverse societies. Simply defined, intercultural competence is the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to effectively and appropriately interact with people from different cultures. It also happens to be a qualification that twenty-first century employers deem highly valuable but often have trouble finding in their employees/job candidates. Using interdisciplinary approaches and materials (literature, film, popular talks, and scholarly articles), students will analyze cultural frameworks and intercultural dynamics while reflecting on their own cultural identities and developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for an intercultural mindset.
