Abstract

// Hall V of the Museo Campano houses a series of worked tuff blocks, some of them with mouldings, that come from the nineteenth-century excavations of the periurban sanctuary of ancient Capua known as the Fondo Patturelli. These blocks have been interpreted as part of the podium of an altar or small temple on the basis of accounts of the structure as found in situ, though the reconstruction and date of this monument remain an open question. The present contribution aims to revisit some of these aspects, such as the accounts contemporary with the discovery, the orientation of the moulding blocks and their possible parallels at Pietrabbondante, and the form of the monument as compared with small-scale altars found in the sanctuary.
