A novel approach for modifying aluminum powder EN AW-7075 with nanoparticles for additive manufacturing
Abstract
1. General scope This dataset forms the foundational experimental dataset investigating the microstructural characteristics of TiC‑reinforced AA7075 aluminium matrix composites. The current release includes the core characterization data supporting the first publication of this study. Subsequent phases — containing extended analyses and additional conditions — are in progress and will be released in later companion datasets. The data establish a comprehensive baseline of fundamental material characteristics, allowing later studies to build from this reference. 2. Dataset components Chemical composition – OES contains quantitative chemical analysis of the tested alloys measured by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES). The dataset lists elemental concentrations (wt%) of both base AA7075 material and TiC‑modified specimens, including average, absolute, and relative standard deviations across multiple replicates. Density and mechanical properties – LOM reports results of hot crack density (HC/cm²) and relative density (%) measurements performed on different TiC contents. Grain characteristics – SEM/EBSD presents grain diameter (µm) and grain area (µm²) values, obtained through quantitative image analysis based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). It provides direct microstructural evidence of grain refinement resulting from TiC reinforcement both at surface and volume levels. Particle size distribution – PSD records particle size distributions for processed and reference powders measured by laser diffraction. This dataset represents the foundational phase of the broader TiC‑AA7075 composite development program. 3. Project context The uploaded data defines references as baseline results necessary for later studies. Some complementary datasets (e.g. differential fast caloremetry or still in work mechanical properties) remain unpublished because they will support future manuscripts currently in preparation. The shared data ensure reproducibility and scientific transparency of the first publication while maintaining the sequential release plan for ongoing findings. 4. Data structure and repository information Data types: Processed experimental tables (CSV) Measurement repetitions: Multiple replicates per condition for statistical confidence Analytical methods: OES, PSD, SEM/EBSD imaging and LOM-based density Future extensions: Additional mechanical, thermal, and microstructural datasets from subsequent project work. 5. Equipment and Institutional Acknowledgment All experimental measurements and sample analyses were performed using research facilities provided by Paderborn University, specifically within the Chair of Materials Science
