Dataset of Inertial Sensor and Video Measurements for Pendulum Motion Validation
Abstract
This dataset was created to evaluate the performance characteristics of inertial measurement units under controlled motion conditions. A single-plane motion scenario was designed, involving one degree of freedom, defined angular displacement, angular velocity, and angular acceleration. A mechanical goniometer was used as the experimental setup, with two inertial sensors attached: one positioned at the rotation origin and the other at the distal end of the rotating arm. The goniometer arm was initially fixed at zero degrees and then released, allowing free-fall motion driven by gravity. This generated an oscillatory pendulum-like movement until reaching approximately −90 degrees. Simultaneously, the motion was recorded using an optical capture system based on a Nikon Z50 camera, configured with a frame rate of 120 samples per second and a resolution of 1080p. The synchronized inertial and video measurements provide a reference dataset for evaluating sensor accuracy, angular resolution, and dynamic response in pendulum motion analysis
