Abstract

This audio clip is from a series of 100 life history interviews with environmental campaigners in the UK, 1970-2020. A quotation from this recording features in the book Voices for Change, published by UCL Press in November 2026 (available in print as well as a free PDF download). The full interview, along with the summaries, transcripts and recordings for this and the rest of the interview collection, is available at the British Library (Sound and Moving Image Collection, under the shelf-mark C2037). And then they put me on their Glastonbury team which was quite revelatory for me. So I went there to sort run workshops and do work on their stall at Glastonbury.Chris Church: Had you been to anything like that before?Zoe Broughton: Not like Glastonbury no, no. [laughing] And I felt like that was quite an eye opener for me because I remember, I came across the Greenpeace stall there. And they had a video which was sort of on a loop playing on a screen at their stall. And it was, it was the song, It’s the end of the World as we know it. And it had all this high energy like speed boats and there were barrels being dropped on them and seals that they were spraying to stop them being culled. I was just completely mesmerised by that video and watched it over and over again, joined up with Greenpeace. And I think that was a kind of changing point for me. And interestingly fifteen years later I remade that video for Greenpeace.British Library catalogue number: C2037/92 Project clip number: 31
