Abstract

The relevance of the article is in the introduction into scientific circulation of two unfinished folklore works by Academician Ahatanhel Krymskyi: «A. Yu. Krymskyi’s Report on His Trip to the Kyiv Province in the Summer of 1895» and «Touches of the Galician-Uniate Influence in the Folklore of the Southern Kyiv Region». The purpose of the article is to prove that A. Krymskyi’s reveal the figure of the scientist as a researcher who worked not only in his office, but also personally communicated with respondents. Among the methods used in the creation of the article, the descriptive-narrative method was used to understand the scientific work of A. Krymskyi, the content of his scientific works. This work uses methods of criticism of historical sources, determined by the specifics of the object of research. The complex application of various means of search, analysis, and synthesis made it possible to optimally use archival data and published sources. As a result of the study, it is proven that A. Krymskyi wrote, but did not complete, two scientific works on the folklore of the Zvenihorod region: «Report of A. Yu. Krymskyi on his trip to the Kyiv province in the summer of 1895» and «Touches of the Galician-Uniate influence in the traditional folklore of the southern Kyiv region». These works were created from folklore materials collected by him personally and on the basis of collections of songs of wandering beggars of the late 18th century. The scientist paid special attention to the origin of folk songs, their change under the influence of historical processes in the Russian Empire. A. Krymskyi substantiated his own methodological approach in the work «How to classify folk songs» and in the «A program for collecting peculiarities of Little Russian (Ukrainian) dialects», in which he proposed his own scientific approach to systematizing Ukrainian folklore and dialect material. The conclusions emphasize that the unfinished folklore works of A. Krymskyi «Report of A. Yu. Krymskyi on his trip to the Kyiv province in the summer of 1895» and «Touches of the Galician-Uniate influence in the traditional folklore of the southern Kyiv region» require careful study by specialists and publication with scientific comments.
