Abstract
n Research shows that rent control incentivizes landlords to at least temporarily withdraw housing in response to price increases-the opposite of what policymakers intend.n Rent control is unlikely to be a standalone solution to the underlying problem plaguing expensive cities: chronic undersupply of housing.
