Abstract

This dataset provides a high-resolution relative exposure index (REI) for the coastline of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The REI is calculated on a 50-m point grid resolution from the shoreline to 10 km offshore using effective fetch, wind direction, and wind speed. A Gaussian smoothing function increasing with distance from shore was applied to reduce artifacts. Values are continuous from 0 to 8.1 and are considered unitless. The dataset was validated with values from the Irish Shelf SWAN Wave Model. Data are provided in GeoTIFF format using the Irish Tranverse Mercator coordinate system. The code used to create the dataset is available at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17817079
