Transformations of the Urban Network of the Lublin Region from 1827 to 1870 and Their Historical Significance – Preliminary Research
Abstract
In the 19th century, the Lublin region underwent significant urban changes. The development of the urban network resulted in the dominance of small private centres. In the second half of the 19th century, the network shrank due to decisions made by the authorities. The authors illustrate their arguments with engravings showing the spatial distribution of towns and their ownership. They show the size of individual towns and changes in this respect from 1827 to 1869. The mass conversion of cities into settlements in 1869/1870 meant that only 20 of the 86 centres remained.
