The potential of deep learning in monitoring Alzheimer’s Disease
Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is caused by the degradation of neural cells in the brain that results in dysfunction of the central nervous system (CNS) [1], [2]. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over one billion people worldwide suffer from neurological disorders, leading to 6.8 million deaths [3]. Along with the toll on the physical and emotional well-being of patients and caregivers, the economic burden of neurological disorders is profound, with over $100 billion annually spent on Alzheimer’s disease alone in the United States [3]. As the number of people affected by neurological disorders is projected to surge because of the aging population, the need for accurate detection is becoming more urgent than ever [4].
