Abstract

In today's society, mothers and fathers face increasing pressure to stimulate their children's motor development from an early age. The abundance of information, especially from social media, creates confusion and makes it difficult to make decisions about how to support childhood growth. This study, framed within the discipline of Psychomotricity, aimed to investigate the information families have regarding the motor development of their babies from birth to three years old. An exploratory qualitative study was conducted using a focus group with six mothers residing in the Metropolitan Region of Chile. The results reveal a marked dependence on informal sources, a lack of clear guidelines regarding developmental milestones, and feelings of anxiety derived from social pressure to achieve certain motor milestones. It is concluded that over-information and a lack of reliable sources hinder family decision-making at this crucial stage of development. There is a need to create training and professional support opportunities that provide relevant, evidence-based information, contributing to the construction of harmonious family environments that respect child development.
