A Guide for the Development of Astrotourism
Abstract
Astrotourism is based on using astronomical resources such as dark skies, star observation, celestial heritage and astronomy-related experiences to create meaningful tourism products, especially in rural and remote areas with low light pollution. This guide offers practical ideas for developing these experiences in a sustainable and responsible way, combining science, culture, storytelling and nature to support local communities, protect night skies and deliver high-quality visitor experiences. This guide is co-edited by UN Tourism and the Starlight Foundation and counts with the kind support of the following UN Tourism Affiliate Members: La Palma Island Society for Economic and Social Promotion and Development (Sociedad de Promoción y Desarrollo Económico y Social de la Isla de La Palma), Spain, and Tenerife Tourism Board (Turismo de Tenerife), Spain.
