Event-related potential analysis of using Empirical Wavelet Transform
Abstract
The extraction of Event-Related Potentials using electroencephalogram analysis is a well-established method for obtaining objective information about cognitive functions. To increase the signal‑to‑noise ratio Event-Related Potentials are often filtered. As an alternative, one can consider signal decomposition with subsequent selection of the components needed for analysis. The paper considers the application of the Empirical Wavelet Transform to perform this procedure. Purpose – evaluation of Empirical Wavelet Transform for Event-Related Potential analysis. On simulated data, Empirical Wavelet Transform substantially reduced background EEG while retaining the shape, amplitude of the ERP. The results show that through the usage of Empirical Wavelet Transform it is possible to separate the Event-Related Potential signal using low volume of data.
