Abstract

Data relevant to article "Cell-body curvature reduces stall frequency to enhance Vibrio cholerae swimming and chemotaxis through hydrogels". The curved cell shape of Vibrio cholerae and its swimming motility are both virulence factors. In this article, we investigated the effect of the former on the latter, using a curved wild-type strain and its straight counterpart dcrvAB. Curvature improved agar hydrogel crossing (but not buffer nor PVP K-90) by reducing trapping events. Simulations extended this mechanism to a wider range of mucus-like meshes and identified an optimal curvature. The data here includes the main bacterial trajectories (of wt and dcrvAB strains) from chemotactic experiments in different environments (buffer, PVP K-90, soft agar), as well as the figure data (all numerical values found in Figures of the article), the experimental and in-silico swim extents distributions, and the supplementary movie 1 from an in-silico experiment (showing a blue "bacterium" in the yellow model mesh, avoiding a stall).
