Abstract

Alternative fuels for diesel engines are being researched to reduce diesel consumption and exhaust pollution. As a result, the study examines the performance and exhaust emissions of a Common-Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) diesel engine when running on diesel combined with bioethanol injection and air preheating at a constant speed and load. The injection of bioethanol and preheated air were increased from 10 to 50 ms and 50 to 60 C, respectively.Diesel paired with bioethanol injection at 30ms and air preheating at 60 C improved engine performance compared to diesel-only mode, increasing brake thermal efficiency and diesel savings by 3 % and 15 %, respectively. This scenario significantly reduced carbon dioxide, black smoke, particulate matter, and nitrogen oxide emissions by 3 %, 2 %, 3 %, and 34 %, respectively.Carbon monoxide was only added in 12 %.
