Methods associated with steviol glycosides investigation

Stevia rebaudiana standardized extracts (SSEs) are used as natural sweeteners or dietary supplements in different countries for their content of stevioside or steviolbioside. Stevioside possess up to 250 times and Steviolbioside possess up to 100 times the sweetness intensity of sucrose, and they are noncaloric and noncarciogenic sweeteners. The aim of this study was to investigate the isolation and separation of the major steviol glycosides from white stevioside powder by using chromatographic techniques and identification of stevioside and steviolbioside by analytical TLC. Characterization and structure elucidation of isolated molecules by spectroscopic techniques and quantification of steviol glycosides from S. rebaudiana using HPLC.
