Subgaleal Lipoma: A case report
Abstract
Subgaleal lipoma is an uncommon benign tumour of adipose tissue located between the galea aponeurotica and the periosteum of the skull. Although lipomas are common in many parts of the body, the subgaleal variant is particularly rare and often comes to clinical attention because of cosmetic deformity rather than symptoms. These lesions typically present as painless, slow-growing scalp masses. In this report, we describe a case of a 30-year-old male presenting with a decade-long swelling on the right parietal scalp. The diagnosis was supported by MRI findings and subsequently confirmed by histopathology following surgical excision. This case adds to the limited but growing literature on subgaleal lipomas, emphasizing the importance of imaging in diagnosis and the favourable outcome after complete excision.
