Integrated Intensive robotic assisted therapy (IIRAT) in neuro rehabilitation: A single institute observational Pilot study
Abstract
Introduction: Across the globe technological innovations are focusing on various aspects of Neurorehabilitation. Combining all the currently available technologies can have a synergistic effect thereby giving the best result. Our study is an attempt to study the efficacy of combined cutting-edge technologies in an objective manner.Aim: An observational pilot study to evaluate the role of Integrated robotic assisted therapy (IIRAT) in neuro rehabilitation using a single institutional rehabilitation model.Materials and Methods: In our study, we treated 42 patients with various neurological disabilities (from May to Sept 2025). They were subjected to intensive integrated robotic assisted training for an average duration of 6 weeks. Data was collected before and after the intervention at the end of 6 weeks. Functional assessment was done for all patients at the end of 2 weeks and course corrections were made depending on the recovery patterns of each patient.Observation: 5% patients had an improvement in motor power by 3 MRC grades while 20 % did not show any improvement. 45% achieved a reduced risk score of more than 45 as per the Bergs balance test and 55% achieved a significant improvement in the 10 meter walking speed and mobility.Result: Our analysis shows IIRAT yields promising results in all domains within a short time frame of 6 weeks. Conclusion: Our study shows that that short term IIRAT has possibly, a synergistic and definite role in near future. Frequent check on progress and course correction in interventional techniques help in achieving faster recovery. Further validation with multicentric randomized trials will help in establishing IIRAT as method for optimal management of patients with neurological disabilities.
