From static to smart: Redefining complete dentures with next-gen innovations
Abstract
For elderly and medically impaired individuals, complete dentures continue to be essential to oral rehabilitation. With an emphasis on material science, digital design, patient-centered care, artificial intelligence, and sustainable fabrication, the integration of digital workflows, regenerative materials, and smart technologies is propelling prosthodontics into a new era, surpassing the limitations of traditional static prostheses in current practices and future directions in complete denture therapy.High-performance polymers, CAD/CAM systems, digital impressions, smart sensors, and bioactive liners are examples of recent advances.Bioprinted regenerative bases and AI-driven design platforms have the potential to improve patient happiness, customisation, durability, and hygiene.Despite these developments, issues with clinical training, accessibility, and regulatory validation still exist. In general, complete denture therapy is moving toward a paradigm shift of intelligent, sustainable, and customized prosthetics, necessitating ongoing multidisciplinary research and equitable integration into routine care.
