Tunneling technique with connective tissue graft versus with acellular dermal matrix in the treatment of multiple gingival recessions: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials
Abstract
Introduction: Multiple and contiguous recessions are a concern for patients for a number of reasons: sensitivities and aesthetic problems. This systematic review of randomized clinical trials compares clinical benefits of using Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) versus Connective Tissue Graft (CTG) in the tunneling technique for treating multiple gingival recessions.Materials and Methods: An electronic search was carried out in the MEDLINE /PUBMED, EMBASE /SCOPUS and COCHRANE Library databases. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) in men and women with at least 6 months comparing ADM to CTG in the tunneling technique, published between 2013 and 2023 in English or French were included. Results: The strategy retrieved 145 articles for inclusion in the study after applying the filters and criteria, only 4 studies were retained. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool for Randomized Trials (version 2, RoB 2) was used to assess the studies. Conclusion: Tunneling technique with Connective Tissue Graft provides more clinical benefit than Acellular Dermal Matrix. Most studies showed no significant difference in root coverage, pocket depth, KT gain or level of clinical attachment.
