Abstract

Recent developments in 3D printed pharmaceuticals are a new development in the pharmaceutical industry, and doctors anticipate using 3-D printing technologies to prescribe meds that offer superior treatment regimens spontaneously from the oral route. In this literature review, the value of 3D printing in personalized medicine is addressed. Conventional drug delivery methods have limited utility in the pharmaceutical industry as they are not ‘designed to fit’ the specific pharmacokinetic properties. Some of the benefits in facility to manufacture personalized medicines are that parts with complex geometry or drug release characteristics can be produced, and small quantities can be made easily for rapid prototyping. The innovation in 3D printing could enable more customized drugs at the demand of a specific patient. Powder binder-jetting, laser writing systems, and nozzle-based shear-extrusion are the most common 3D print methods used in the manufacturing of medical devices and dosage forms. Immediate release tablets, pulsatile release tablets, and transdermal dosage forms are just a few of the dosage forms in which 3D printing may find use. 3D printing technology has the potential to greatly aid in the treatment of fatal illnesses and can be effectively used in the creation of customized medications. Especially for people with many medications, the 3D printing process could be used to produce one dose containing several meds. In addition, we could also test additional 3D printing-based personalized drug release systems for use in chemotherapy of cancer patients with minimal adverse effects. The use of 3D printing in customized medicine was examined in this essay. Along with some of the technology’s uses, we also talked about the various procedures and materials utilized in 3D printing-based pharmaceutical delivery.
