Abstract

The global landscape for international investment is being reshaped by geopolitical tensions, tariff escalation, weakening multilateral disciplines and rising economic security concerns. These forces are making the investment environment more uncertain, fragmented and politicized. Importantly, investment decisions are increasingly affected by strategic and security considerations. The World Investment Report 2026 analyses the scale and nature of changes in investment patterns caused by these developments. It examines related investment policy trends, including industrial policies, investment screening mechanisms, supply-chain-related measures and the growing use of regional and inter-regional agreements. And it outlines policy considerations aimed at helping developing countries navigate an increasingly complex global investment environment.
