Abstract

Urban air pollution is a critical environmental challenge in developing countries, where vehicle emissions account for 60–70 % of total urban air pollution. This study quantified the spatiotemporal distribution of vehicle emissions in La Troncal, Ecuador (population 70,000), by developing a detailed inventory for January-March 2024. Using the International Vehicle Emissions (IVE) model, 1,407 vehicles were assessed along two major routes over three consecutive days, with measurements taken every two hours. Vehicles were categorized by type (private car 43.22 %, motorbikes 39.14 %, taxis 10.28 %, trucks 5.14 %, public transport 2.22 %) and by Euro technology levels (Euro III–VI). Results, analyzed using ANOVA (p
