Abstract

The rise of chronic diseases, environmental deterioration, biodiversity loss, and climate change stresses have underscored the importance of integrated solutions that can foster human health and environmental health. This review delves into how microbial biotechnology, ecological principles, and naturopathic practices can be combined to create a more sustainable health horizon. Microbial biotechnology is a rapidly evolving field, which includes uses of micro-organisms for probiotics, fermented foods and microbiome targeted therapeutics, bioremediation, sustainable agriculture, and circular bioeconomy. Meanwhile, ecological principles like conservation of biodiversity, ecological resilience, and One Health are highlighting the interdependence of humans, animals, microbes, and the environment. Naturopathic medicine adds to these viewpoints with an emphasis on prevention, whole person healing, lifestyle changes and the body's innate healing ability. The review covers the effects of the microbial community on health and disease, the benefits of ecological restoration for restoring the microbial community, and the potential of NbIs to improve health resilience. Innovative tools such as synthetic biology, multi-omics platforms, artificial intelligence and precision microbiome medicine are also covered, highlighting the emerging technologies that can be leveraged to develop personalized and sustainable healthcare strategies. In addition, the issues of scientific reproducibility, biosafety, ethics and management of data are assessed. In conclusion, the combination of microbial biotechnology and the concept of One Health, natural, and ecological medicine (NEM) holds potential for creating resilient healthcare systems, environmental protection, and sustainable living as a whole. Keywords: Microbial biotechnology, Naturopathy, Microbiome, One Health, Sustainable health.
