Results on greater forkbeard (Phycis blennoides), Spanish ling (Molva macrophthalma), roughsnout grenadier (Trachyrincus scabrus), bluemouth rockfish (Helicolenus dactylopterus) and other scarce deep-sea fish species on the 2025 Northern Spanish Shelf Groundfish Survey
Abstract
This working document presents the results on the most significant deep-sea fish species on the Northern Spanish Shelf Groundfish Survey (SP-NSGFS-Q4) in 2025. Biomass, abundance, length distributions and geographic ranges were analysed for greater forkbeard (Phycis blennoides), Spanish ling (Molva macrophthalma), roughsnout grenadier (Trachyrincus scabrus), bluemouth rockfish (Helicolenus dactylopterus) and other scarce deep-sea fish species. Biomass of P. blennoides and M. macrophthalma increased, whereas T. Scabrus and H. dactylopterus decreased. P. bogaraveo return to exhibit its typical low and variability in abundance. Beryx spp. although scarce as usual, increased in this last survey. Aphanopus carbo and Coryphaenoides rupestris were not found in this last survey. Recruitment was no significant for none of these species in this last year.
