Tutores ou senhores? Uma análise semântica da palavra tutor em tutelas brasileiras do período Pós-Abolição
Abstract
This article analyzes statements of six cases of guardianship in the city of Rio de Contas, Bahia, that occurred between 1888 and 1895, comparing them with statements of the Portuguese law Ordenações Filipinas, on which these cases are based, in order to observe the functioning of senses of the word ‘tutor’ (‘guardian’). Mobilizing categories of Argumentative Semantics, the authors postulate that such documents materialize senses that argue in favor of the maintenance, in Post-Abolition Brazil, of the condition of enslaved for the children of former-slave mothers.
