Abstract

Clarifying TWC purification mechanism and developing predictive models are crucial for future hybrid powertrains with spark ignition engines in passenger vehicles.By using a detailed surface reaction model CO oxidation reaction on Rh surface was simulated.Adding the phenomenological reactions expressing the formation and decomposition of oxide film to the CO+O2 surface reaction mechanism on Rh made it possible to reproduce the result of light-off test and XPS analysis.Through this research, the mechanism of oxide film formation and decomposition on Rh surface and the effect of Rh oxidation to the purification performance became clear.
