Digital passport of pediatric hematology/ oncology service in Russia: a tool for ensuring the continuity of medical care.
Abstract
National medical research centers (NMRCs) play a crucial role in providing oversight, coordination and methodological support for regional healthcare facilities and in performing analytical work within their specialization. However, constantly changing legislation and a lack of effective tools enabling NMRCs to perform their functions pose challenges to improving the quality of healthcare management. Aim of the study: this article discusses leading international initiatives in big data analysis in healthcare aimed at generating new knowledge, improving clinical practice, and optimizing epidemiological surveillance. It also reviews our experience in the implementation of electronic systems for the assessment of pediatric oncology and hematology care quality. Materials and methods. The following digital systems have been developed and implemented into practice: a Digital Regional Profile and a Digital System for Specialized Medical Care Quality Assessment, which are the components of a more comprehensive system – Digital Passport of the Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Service. Results. A combination of these systems provides tools for: 1) ranking healthcare facilities; 2) assessing changes in the quality of care; 3) referring patients to a healthcare facility in another region if the standards of care set forth in the updated order of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation No. 203 that came into force on September 1, 2025 are not met. Conclusions. The Digital Passport of the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Service has become one of the solutions to improve the quality of monitoring of oncology and hematology care provided to children.
