Knowledge base for simulation of digital personalized dental implant.
Abstract
Modern technologies of 3D modeling, image processing, and Artificial Intelligence provide powerful opportunities for implementing a decision-making support system for dental implantation, enabling a personalized approach to patient treatment and thereby improving the quality of medical services. Purpose of the study is to develop and scientifically validate a software algorithm for decision-making support when selecting the optimal dental implant design. Materials and methods. The proposed solution is based on a hybrid approach that algorithmically combines the stages of patient data analysis and automated calculation of implant parameters using a knowledge base in which the main calculation rules are presented as computer ontology. The study draws on modern advances in parametric optimization of implants, their 3D modeling, artificial intelligence technologies, and knowledge engineering. Results. A parametric model of the ontology of a digital personalized dental implant is proposed. It differs from similar models in the way parameters and calculation rules are defined in the knowledge base. The proposed model was implemented and tested as part of a decision-making support system for mandibular dental implantation. Findings. The implementation of a knowledge base for modeling a digital personalized dental implant has improved the methodology for planning dental implantation through partial parameterization of a three-dimensional model of the patient’s anatomical structures based on cone-beam computed tomography and intraoral scanning data.
