Innovative Application of Cement- Resin Blend Slurry to Cure Stubborn Leak Zone Saving Workover Rig Time
Abstract
Abstract This paper describes the innovative application of cement-resin on a stubborn leak zone in a well that had been long term suspended due to high water production and the inability to cure the leak zone with any cement plug design. The leak zone was cured using a cement-resin blend and the water-cut reduced by 18% allowing the well to come back into production and saving further workover rig time and cost. The details of the job will be investigated to improve success probability of remedial jobs for stubborn leak zones with reduced permeabilities. We will also showcase the potential of resin as a cementing alternative- both when used together with cement and in its pure form. Multiple successful Kuwait case studies such as Ahmadi Well (AH-0158) and a Water Well (WW-0467), where epoxy resin was used to secure the well are investigated n. In the future, resin is expected to be in the forefront of many corrosive primary well cementing (for zonal isolation) and remedial jobs. Performing more resin jobs will allow us to further our understanding of this technology and be able to further optimize it.
