Abstract

Abstract Objective To develop the Patient Safety Care Competence Questionnaire for Health care assistant (HCA) and test its reliability and validity, thereby providing a standardized assessment tool for evaluating their patient safety care competence. Methods Based on the Iceberg Model, the questionnaire was constructed using literature review, semi-structured interviews, the Delphi method, correlation coefficient analysis, Cronbach's α coefficient, and exploratory factor analysis. A cluster sampling method was adopted to recruit 502 Health care assistant (HCA) for a survey to verify the questionnaire's reliability and validity. Results Exploratory factor analysis extracted 5 common factors (Knowledge and Skills, Motivation, Self-concept, Social Role, Personal Traits), with a cumulative variance contribution rate of 72.200%. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total scale was 0.921, and the α coefficients of each dimension ranged from 0.824 to 0.928. The item-level content validity index (I-CVI) was 0.889–1.000, and the scale-level content validity index (S-CVI) was 0.938. Conclusion The Patient Safety Care Competence Questionnaire for Health care assistant (HCA) developed based on the Iceberg Model has good reliability and validity, and can be used to evaluate the patient safety care competence of HCA.
