Effects of Grafting on the Growth Performance of Grape Scion-Rootstock Combinations
Abstract
Abstract Meeting Indonesia’s high demand for grapes necessitates improving local grape cultivation, which offers a profitable opportunity due to multiple harvests per year. However, selecting suitable grape varieties for Indonesia’s climate poses a significant challenge. This study examined the impact of scion-rootstock combinations (Jupiter and Transfiguration scions grafted onto Isabella, Kober, and Tleki rootstocks) on growth parameters and grafting success in grapevines. Statistical analysis showed that the scion-rootstock combinations has significantly affect the shoot length, shoot diameter, and grafting success but not significantly affect the emergence time and leaf number. Statistical analysis revealed significant effects of scion-rootstock combinations on shoot length, shoot diameter, and grafting success, but no significant impact on emergence time or leaf number. The Transfiguration-Isabella combination outperformed others, yielding the highest grafting success rate (90%) and superior growth performance. This study’s findings can inform grape variety selection for Indonesian cultivation, helping meet the high demand for grapes.
