Abstract

Abstract Background Age trajectories of mortality (ATM) are important indicators of population health. In recent years, major global events have substantially affected ATM. Previous data and applications covered calendar years only up to 2018. However, the period from 2020 to 2023—marked by excess mortality—offers new opportunities to expand the ATM database and its applications. Methods Constructing ATM within individual calendar years from 2018 to 2023 represents a major methodological extension. The years 2018 and 2019 serve as reference periods, 2020 and 2021 correspond to the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2022 and 2023 reflect a period of relaxation. The analysis was implemented using R software and Shiny technology. Results A new application was created in R using Shiny technology. The application and expanded data enable a more detailed analysis of disease-specific mortality patterns across the calendar years 2018–2023. The data system and application were developed primarily from the perspective of age-dependent mortality. Conclusion The presented data and application are intended primarily as exploratory tools. Their greatest value lies in enabling more detailed follow-up analyses using filtered, country-specific data.
