Abstract

"The Tokyo VPN Speed Monitor Dataset provides comprehensive longitudinal performance measurements of 15 major VPN services from Tokyo, Japan. Data collection is fully automated using 8 Google Apps Script engines, with measurements conducted every 6 hours over a period exceeding 90 days.Key metrics include:- Download speed (Mbps)- Upload speed (Mbps) - Ping latency (ms)- Stability score (0-100, based on 7-day standard deviation)- Reliability score (0-100)- Monthly pricing (JPY\/USD)Target VPN services: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, MillenVPN, CyberGhost, ProtonVPN, Private Internet Access, IPVanish, Mullvad, Windscribe, SekaVPN, HideMyAss, TunnelBear, Hotspot Shield, and Planet VPN.The composite performance score is calculated as:Score = Download\u00d70.35 + Upload\u00d70.15 + Ping\u00d70.20 + Stability\u00d70.15 + Reliability\u00d70.15This dataset enables researchers and developers to:- Analyze VPN performance trends over time- Compare service reliability across providers- Study pricing dynamics in the VPN market- Develop predictive models for network performance- Build data-driven VPN recommendation toolsAll data and source code are released under the MIT License. The dataset is also available on Harvard Dataverse, Zenodo, figshare, OSF, Mendeley Data, and Kaggle with assigned DOIs for academic citation.Measurement location: Tokyo, JapanUpdate frequency: Every 6 hours (4 times daily)Data coverage: 90+ days of historical measurements"
