‘Donglin Queen’: A New Iris sanguinea Cultivar
Abstract
Iris sanguinea, a perennial herbaceous species of the genus Iris (Iridaceae), is noted for its ornamental appeal, medicinal applications, and ecological benefits. Distinguished by its blue-purple flowers, distinctive floral morphology, and pronounced stress resistance, this species is extensively used in flower beds, borders, floral arrangements, and waterside landscaping, underscoring its significant ornamental potential. The recent development of novel I. sanguinea cultivars is exemplified by several distinctive phenotypes: ‘Xiao Feidie’ with white flowers and flat, spoon-shaped outer perianths (Liu et al. 2023); ‘Donglin Jiayan’, distinguished by its pink-purple flowers (Liu et al. 2024); and ‘NEFU-1’, which displays a heterochromatic perianth with contrasting colors between the outer and inner segments (Qi et al. 2020).
