Ayurveda Perspective on Congenital Disorders: A Comprehensive Review
Abstract
Congenital disorders and genetic anomalies remain a significant challenge for public health worldwide. While modern biomedical science emphasizes pathophysiology and genetic diagnostics, Ayurveda offers an integrative and preventive paradigm grounded in classical concepts of Beeja (seed), Garbha (embryo), and Shad-Garbhakara Bhavas (six procreative factors). This review synthesizes classical Ayurvedic teachings with contemporary interpretations to clarify the Ayurvedic understanding of congenital disorders, their etiopathogenesis, preventive strategies including Garbhini Paricharya (antenatal care), and prospects for research such as Ayurgenomics. The aim is to present a cohesive framework that bridges traditional knowledge with modern notions of congenital anomalies, highlighting areas for future interdisciplinary investigation.
