Abstract
This paper provides a critical analysis of Republic Act No. 10173, also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012. The Act aims to protect personal information in both the public and private sectors, ensuring that individuals' rights to privacy are upheld in the digital age. This critique examines the key provisions, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the law, and explores its social, economic, and organizational implications. Additionally, specific recommendations are offered to enhance its effectiveness and enforcement. The paper concludes that while RA 10173 represents a significant step toward data protection in the Philippines, there remains room for improvement in clarity, accessibility, and enforcement mechanisms.
