The Pillars of Post-War Desire: Incelism, Dominatrix Dynamics, and the Eroticized Psycho-Politics of Ukraine
Abstract
In the aftermath of prolonged military conflict, societal structures undergo profound transformations, particularly in the realms of gender, sexuality, and psychic organization. The Ukrainian context, marked by the ongoing ramifications of the 2022 Russian invasion and its subsequent escalations, provides a fertile ground for examining emergent phenomena such as "post-war incelism" and the rise of "post-war dominatrixes." These concepts are framed through analogies drawn from the "pill" ideologies popularized in digital subcultures, originating from the Wachowskis' film The Matrix (1999), where the red pill represents an unflinching confrontation with reality, the blue pill signifies willful delusion, and the black pill embodies nihilistic resignation. This essay introduces the metaphorical constructs of the "yellow-blue latex pill" and the "red-black latex pill" as emblematic of the postwar Ukrainian eroticpsycho-political landscape. The yellow-blue pill, invoking the colors of the Ukrainian flag, symbolizes a masochistic nationalist masculinity entangled with submissive erotics, while the red-black latex pill-evoking the anarchist banners of historical Ukrainian insurgencies, such as those of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) during World War II-denotes an aggressive, dominatrix-driven reclamation of agency through financial and psychological domination. This analysis integrates a diverse array of theoretical perspectives, including Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis, Jungian archetypal psychology, leftist psychoanalytic critiques from Wilhelm Reich to Slavoj.
