Abstract

This article introduces Human-AI Symbiosis Dynamic Capabilities (HASDC) as a new construct in management sciences explaining how human-AI symbiosis systems adapt and create value under ambiguity. Extending dynamic capabilities theory and prior work on employee dynamic capabilities and AI capability as an organizational resource, it is argued that dominant perspectives still treat AI mainly as a tool and therefore not consider new class of AI systems: human-AI symbiosis, designed to sustain unresolved cognitive states, preserve ambiguity, and co-evolve with human sensemaking. The framework distinguishes human-AI symbiosis dynamic capabilities (meaning creation, decision grounding, bidirectional self-evolving adjustment), including AI-level dynamic capabilities (collective dreaming, truth gating, dynamic adjustment). The construct is a basis for a proof-of-concept case study in a small AI R&D company, where a CEO's year-long use of a human-AI symbiosis system as a cognitive partner enabled reframing an MVP strategy from architecture-first to demo-first. The case shows how weak signals were retained without premature closure, stabilized through epistemic governance, and translated into actionable readiness, supporting an anticipatory pivot later validated by collaboration opportunities. The study positions human-AI symbiosis as a distinct locus of dynamic capability formation and sets a basis for future operationalization and longitudinal validation.
