A Strategy-First, Rule-Based Decision Support System for Equity Market Analysis
Abstract
This work proposes an Equity Strategy Assistant designed as a decision-support system for equity strategy formulation, simulation, and market condition monitoring. The system is explicitly constructed to assist human users in reasoning about trading ideas through structured representation, rule-based evaluation, and explanatory analysis, without participating in or influencing execution decisions. At its core, the system supports the transformation of informal trading concepts into explicit, inspectable strategy definitions, enabling users to test those definitions against historical data and observe how they interact with real or delayed market conditions. The system does not act autonomously, nor does it optimize for financial outcomes. Instead, it functions as an analytical aid that helps users understand what happened, under which conditions, and why-while leaving all interpretive and execution authority with the human user. The design deliberately prioritizes transparency, auditability, and constraint over predictive power. Automated components are used to evaluate rule satisfaction, simulate outcomes, and summarize behavior, but they are intentionally restricted from producing recommendations or prescriptive actions. Human judgment remains central throughout the decision-making process.
