Cyber Risk Management: A Frameworks, Strategies, and Case Studies in Cybersecurity
Abstract
Cyber risk has become a critical concern for organizations as digital transformation accelerates, exposing businesses to increasingly sophisticated and frequent cyber threats. This review examines the frameworks, strategies, and technological solutions used for cyber risk management, focusing on their effectiveness in mitigating risks and enhancing organizational resilience. Covering research published between 2015 and 2025, the findings reveal that widely recognized frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27005, and FAIR are among the most frequently adopted, with a growing shift toward integrating artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to enhance threat detection and response. Despite these advancements, organizations continue to face barriers, including limited resources, a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals, and the complexity of implementing comprehensive risk management strategies, especially in small to medium-sized enterprises. Analysis shows that 69% of studies focus on critical infrastructure and financial sectors, reflecting their heightened vulnerability to cyberattacks, while 31% of publications do not specify the frameworks or tools used, indicating a lack of methodological transparency in current research. The review emphasizes the need for adaptable, cost-effective cyber risk management solutions and stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government to address regulatory complexities and close existing knowledge gaps. Empirical validation of emerging tools and frameworks is crucial to shaping robust and future-ready cybersecurity practices.
