Abstract

This article introduces ETHOS.GeoKit, a Python-based toolkit offering straightforward functions for analyzing and modifying geospatial data across various fields. It has been extensively used, especially for global renewable potential analysis. GeoKit provides functions for mutating geospatial datasets, as well as for manipulating and translating vector and raster geometries. It can also warp and resample raster data. The functions were originally developed for land eligibility analysis to determine potential locations for renewable energy plants, but they can also be used to analyze any kind of georeferenced data. Building on the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL), GeoKIT offers a simpler interface and setup, making it more applicable to non-experts in geospatial data processing.
